Carla and Andrew – Banchory East and Maryculter House Hotel

Deja vu – yet another rainy Saturday wedding!

Saturday saw Carla and Andrew marry at Banchory East Church on Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. Carla wore a beautiful Suzanne Neville dress with the most stunning black embroidery. The colour theme was black with brides suitably matching the black thistles and detail at the church and reception venue – Maryculter House Hotel located on the beautiful Royal Deeside near Aberdeen.

Never to let the rain deter us, even though we were visibly soaked by the time we entered the church for the ceremony, we created some lovely images and enjoyed being part of Carla and Andrews big day. A big mention must go to the bridal party that surprised the newly weds with a mash up medley dance straight after the first dance!

Look forward to seeing you both again soon and hope you enjoy the sneak preview.

BIPP Fellowship Award

I am still in shock and overwhelmed to have been awarded my Fellowship in Wedding Photography by the British Institute of Professional Photographers – BIPP.

With hazardous conditions forecast and after a beautiful winters wedding in Aberdeenshire myself, Carol and the kids drove down to Manchester over night to attend the panel judging the next day. After a friendly greeting we waited nervously with a glass of red waiting to be summoned with the judges verdict! At last, I was called. My panel and supporting evidence laid out in front of me I was greeted by Chris Harper the chairman of the BIPP. Going over the images in a slow methodical manner Chris paused and said – you are now a Fellow of the BIPP! To say I was emotional is an understatement, never had I imagined I would reach such a distinguished level.

To put the importance of gaining my Fellowship into perspective; there are only a handful of BIPP Fellows in Scotland and I am only 1 of 2 that has achieved their Fellowship in Wedding Photography, arguably the hardest category to gain your Fellowship. But the most important element of this and subsequent qualifications has been the journey. I have been mentored by some amazing photographers, Kevin Pengelly FBIPP, Dennis Hylander FBIPP and Gordon McGowan FBIPP to name a few. I have learnt so much along the way, developing my skills as a photographer as well as creating my own unique wedding day style.

I would like to think the journey has only just began and look forward to where this will take me. I am grateful to Carol’s patience and promise to now spend more time with the children!

Check out my Fellowship Panel under ‘INFO’ on the menu bar.

Barbara and Stuart’s Wedding – 23rd March 2013

Once again we had to brave the worst the North East of Scotland could through at us, this time in the form of snow! Barbara and Stuart married at Fyvie church which has the most amazing stained glass muriel up high above the alter.

After the ceremony the couple braved the journey back to Pittodrie House Hotel in the vintage Rolls Royce which remarkable handled the snow drifts and freezing conditions really well, well apart from the bride having to where my jacket for the journey back!

Barbara and Stuart were fantastic to work with for their wedding day photography, walking in the snow, sometimes up to their knees and always smiling having fun!

The photographs that follow are a brief glimpse of their fantastic day, we wish all the best for Barbara and Stuart and hope they have a fantastic honeymoon.
