I am still in shock and overwhelmed to have been awarded my Fellowship in Wedding Photography by the British Institute of Professional Photographers – BIPP.
With hazardous conditions forecast and after a beautiful winters wedding in Aberdeenshire myself, Carol and the kids drove down to Manchester over night to attend the panel judging the next day. After a friendly greeting we waited nervously with a glass of red waiting to be summoned with the judges verdict! At last, I was called. My panel and supporting evidence laid out in front of me I was greeted by Chris Harper the chairman of the BIPP. Going over the images in a slow methodical manner Chris paused and said – you are now a Fellow of the BIPP! To say I was emotional is an understatement, never had I imagined I would reach such a distinguished level.
To put the importance of gaining my Fellowship into perspective; there are only a handful of BIPP Fellows in Scotland and I am only 1 of 2 that has achieved their Fellowship in Wedding Photography, arguably the hardest category to gain your Fellowship. But the most important element of this and subsequent qualifications has been the journey. I have been mentored by some amazing photographers, Kevin Pengelly FBIPP, Dennis Hylander FBIPP and Gordon McGowan FBIPP to name a few. I have learnt so much along the way, developing my skills as a photographer as well as creating my own unique wedding day style.
I would like to think the journey has only just began and look forward to where this will take me. I am grateful to Carol’s patience and promise to now spend more time with the children!
